A Draughtsman Chair (or Draftsman Chair) sold in the UK is designed to have a seat that is much higher than normal yet still provide a foot support, though the chair might be used for all sorts of purposes aside from a good chair for a draughtsman! For example they might be used as a chair for a high counter where the user might stand or sit behind a countertop that is above waist height. Other common names are tall swivel chair and high swivel chair, used by technicians.

The higher the seat from the ground, the more leverage and strain that is applied to the chair components. A small sideways lean by a person sitting on a standard height chair is amplified if they did the same lean on this type of chair. So a safe chair with a high seat needs to be able to deal with these issues while providing the user with a comfortable seat and the opportunity to adopt a good posture.

Our draughtsman chairs (or draftsmans chairs) have a very large seat height adjustment from 58cm to 84cm, so they have a wide base and glides for stability. We never supply castors as standard as the risk of falling from a moving high chair is much higher than a regular height chair.

We supply arms with our high seat chairs for two reasons. First, they hold the user in an upright position, reducing the risk of leaning sideways and tipping or falling from the high seat and the second is to provide support for the arms, which reduces the downward pressure through the spine.

The footring can be moved up or down to suit the height of the seat, allowing the user to rest their feet at any seat height, taking pressure off the underthighs for both safety and comfort.

The backrest gives firm support and has only a small tilt, as to reduce risk, we do not recommend tilting or leaning backwards on a high chair.

Seat height is adjusted by a neat mini lever located under the seat which protects pedestrians as it does not protrude into the walking area around the chair.

WARNING: high seats have an increased risk to safety and the instructions for use on the safety label supplied with the chair should be carefully followed. For users up to 110kg (17st). Maximum safe hours per day usage 8
